The End Of Another Year.

I hope you all enjoyed Cody’s post on Friday. I was in Tahoe Thursday and Friday with no real service and was also completely exhausted from the days activities. At least this was our view! So beautiful!

IMAG0495You can see Lake Tahoe from the house! Such a spectacular view! I could probably write a whole post on this, but I wont. It would never do the beauty of Tahoe justice.

But I will show you my first experience of sledding ever! (My dad tells me that I have done this before, but I don’t remember so it doesn’t count)

BAHAHaH I am awesome. Whats up, Whats up.

Anyways, I am pretty pumped for the new year. I got my new planner yesterday and am pretty stoked to start filling it out. Nerdy, but I’mnotsorry.

Anyways, thats all I got for today. I used all my creative writing skills up when writing my monthly newsletter for my jewelry business. So this is what you get. I hope you all have a fabulous new years eve!!

High 5 For Friday! (Guest Post)

By Cody (the bf)

Hello loyal readers! Today Amanda is off skiing, and somehow she agreed to let me write a guest post (heh heh heh…). She wasn’t able to see this post before it was published, so I’m sure this will be both the first and last time I write one of these.

Thanks for tolerating me! I hope the puppy photos will make up for it. So, without further ado, here’s a look back at the past few days:

1. We rode around in a limo over the weekend to look at Christmas lights. It was quite the classy experience (except when we were making funny faces).

2. The obvious winner on Christmas was Ellie. I’m pretty sure she got more presents than anyone — her stocking was bursting at the seams.

3. As Amanda mentioned, we spent Christmas morning eating bagels and hanging out with her family. Here’s Scooter, their two-legged cat, playing with one of his many catnip-infused presents. I’m allergic to cats, so I appreciate them from a distance.

4. Amanda being gone means I get to hang out with Ellie and her huge tongue all day. She seemed pretty happy after playing fetch for a little bit.

5. And, thanks to technology, Ellie got to chat with her friend Tala. And I guess I got to talk to Amanda, too.

Christmas Casual.

In my family, we don’t get dressed up for Christmas. Honestly, they are lucky when I change out of my PJs before coming over. But when going to Cody’s family’s house, I feel the need to look a little nicer for some reason. Maybe because they don’t really know me and I don’t want to look like a total slob..I don’t know. I would probably have fit in better if I had just worn my cowboy boots and my Miss Me jeans. But really though.

I didn’t get super dressed up. Just my most comfy “nice” clothes. If that makes ANY sense.

webIMG_9503Seriously the most comfortable sweater ever. AND my most comfy pair of pants.

Sweater: New York & Co.
Pants: Target
Boots: Aldo
Scarf: Mervyns (remember that store)
Jewelry: Premier Designs

This weekend was totally crazy.. We were virtually NEVER home. I am definitely ready to spend the day tomorrow doing absolutely nothing with Cody. Hopefully our house won’t smell of fire and smoke tomorrow. Oh yea, we Cody  is super awesome and closed the flue to the fireplace when apparently the fire was not completely out all the way and then left for 6 hours….I guess in his defense he did check to make sure it was cold and he isn’t really used to having a fireplace, and a wood burning stove isn’t really the same thing. NEVERCLOSINGTHEFLUEAGAIN. Thankfully we took Ellie to my mom’s and she wasn’t in her kennel during this smoking disaster. God, that would have been awful. I don’t wanna think about it.

This was our (me and Cody) third Christmas together, and since we have come into each other’s lives, our Christmas holidays have been a little more extreme. This year we spent Christmas Eve day at his family’s house about an hour away, after that we rushed over to my mom’s house for dinner, and then after that we went over to our friend’s house to eat cookies and watch a Home Alone marathon (did you know there are 4 of those?!?), and then finally we were able to go home and sleep at 2am. PS. This is the first year I have not slept at my mommy’s (yes, mommy) house the night before christmas. I have ALWAYS woken up to presents under the tree that Santa had brought while I was sleeping. Don’t judge me. I’m not sorry. It was awesome. On Christmas morning, we were woken up by Ellie barking because my mom got here at 845am and we got to open presents. Then, we went over to my dad’s house to open presents there, AND THEN for dinner, we drove up to Cody’s parents’ house for dinner. Ay Yi Yi. I am happy it is over but I am so thankful that we are able to be able to do all that and spend time with everyone for Christmas.

So that brings me to the point of all this. Family traditions. I was thinking about all that we do and realizing how wonderful it is to have our special traditions. And since being part of cody’s life and vice versa, the new traditions that we have been introduced to.

Here are the ones we celebrated this year:

1. At Cody’s family’s house, everyone gets together. There are about 24 of us there (I have no clue most of their names or how they are related [but to be fair, neither does cody]) and we do a huge white elephant exchange. It is so much fun and everyone is so welcoming and loving and it happens every year.

2. Eating Christmas dinner with my momma. Its nothing fancy and if I wanted to I could wear sweats, but I love it. I love being able to spend that time with her.

3. Opening our stockings first on Christmas morning. EVERY YEAR.

4. Packing up all the gifts for my dad, sister, and step mom and lugging them over to their house where we try to open them before everyone else arrives (that never happens).

5. Bagels (that my dad drives to davis for when we live in sacramento and I am SOOO thankful he does), cream cheese, and lox (from Costco, of course) with about 13 other friends and family at my dad’s house on Christmas morning.

6. At Cody’s house, I have been lucky enough to be integrated into the tradition of using the empty wrapping paper tubes as swords and having a sword fight with Cody and his mom and dad. It is AMAZING. Seriously so much fun.

IMG_20121225_220103This is the aftermath….DESTROYED.

I am so grateful for all the traditions that we celebrate. I love that we are going to be able to do these thing in some way or another for a really long time and one day hope to pass on to my kids. I do want to start one more tradition in my house (and Cody agrees), I want to start the pajama tradition. Where you get a new pair of pajamas every year and that is the one present you open on Christmas Eve.

What traditions do you do? Any new ones you want to start?

Is it possible to have a holiday hangover? Because I totally have one of those today.

Happy christmas

Happy Christmas everyone! I hope you are enjoying the family and friends and coziness today!

I can’t wait to hear about your holiday! And if you don’t celebrate christmas, then happy Tuesday!

Happy Christmas Eve.

This weekend has been wonderful and today and tomorrow are going to be filled with a bunch more Christmas magic. Yes I did just say Christmas magic. Don’t hate. I have been LOVING the coziness and of the season this year. I really don’t want it to end.

Doesn’t feel cozy?? I would like to point out that Cody did the wrap job on those 2 really big ones in the bottom right. Mine are WAAAYYY prettier…haha 🙂

Anyways, These next 2 days are going to be filled with more holiday movies and family time and love (yes, I know it is sappy) I hope your holiday is filled with the same. No matter what you celebrate. So Happy Christmas eve. I hope it is magical. Yes, magical.

High 5 For Friday!

This week went by really fast. I was actually busy “working” at the family business this week. It has been great to feel so productive this week. Here are 5 of my favorite things this week. They may seem little and not too exciting to other people, but they totally made my week a little brighter 🙂

PS. Apparently, only the good things that happened, happened in instagram fashion…

PPS. If you are reading this, just realize that it is 12/21/12, because I totally forgot until about 8pm yesterday, apparently I am super nervous about the world ending…. BUT if you are not reading this than maybe the world DID end….womp womp womp (trombone style).

IMG_20121219_1147161. This doesn’t NEED any filter what-so-ever (but it has one) because it is Tahoe. I love Tahoe. I was up there with my dad in meetings with a few resorts on Wednesday getting ready for our upcoming season. I love having a larger role in the company. Also, it is really nice to be able to spend time with my dad.

IMG_20121214_2103362. Ice skating and delicious coffees that tried to have pretty designs in them. And by ice skating, I mean putting Kahlua in our coffees and watching our other friends skate.

IMG_20121220_1037043. Ooooh sleepy puppy. I love that she sleeps with her tongue out.

IMG_20121220_1759304. I love cozy nights. Our heater is broken (again) so it is fire central in our house. I love the Christmas cozy-ness though. It makes it way better!

IMG_20121214_1453475. My car battery died (which wasn’t awesome) BUT when I went to go get it changed, they had this guy on the counter. Totally made my battery buying  experience that much better.

So yes, not so exciting for normal awesome people BUT they made me happy.

Artichoke Dip For Dinner.

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this last night. You can change all the todays to yesterdays. You know what I am talking about. I just realized I wrote it in the wrong tense and am too tired/lazy to do it.

I am officially exhausted. I had the longest day ever (fun, but long) which involved waking up at 5:45am and not getting home until 7:30pm. Just in case you missed it, that was 5:45 AM!!! Like in the MORNING. It was still pitch black out! I haven’t done that in a while. I was in Tahoeeez in meetings with a few ski resorts, just in case you were wondering what I was doing all day and/or what on earth would make me get up that early. I know you were just DYING to know!

So I leave you with this. Some comfy clothes. I love the whole vest look. I really do. I have been trying to pull them out of my closet more this winter. Especially if I am just hanging out and don’t really need a jacket.

webIMG_9288Yes, I know. I have no head. This was the best one of my actual outfit though. No one cares what I look like..

webIMG_9304I make super awesome faces. But PS. The fur comes off the hood of this. PPS. It is not real fur. So don’t go all cray cray on me.

Yes, I know they are too long. There is a reason for that though. They are my horseback riding pants. When I have my boots on, they are the perfect length. Also, they are rhinestoned out on the back pockets so my butt is super glamorous! Whats up whats up.

webIMG_9308I don’t know how to be serious.

Vest: Gap – circa 2006 (back when I worked there in college)
Sweater: REI – Columbia fleece (similar/pretty much the same thing)
Pants: Boot Barn – Miss Me
Shoes: Chucks. Duh. They used to be black. (It may be time for a new pair soon..but probably not) PS. when did these become $$50?!?!?! WHAAT!?
Jewelry: Premier Designs

I am going to sleep now. At 8:30….I am that awesome.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want.

women-39-s-crescent-sunshine-hoodie-A58P_EY8_heroI need this in my life. I don’t think you understand. I went to REI the other day and wore it around the store for a good 30 minutes. The only is $95. Say WHAAAATTT!?!?!! I don’t have a job over here. I seriously CAN NOT buy this. But I don’t think you realize how bad I WANT it.

I have never been in a position where I couldn’t buy what I wanted for myself. Obviously, there was always a limit and I am actually pretty good at using self control when it comes to spending money. I really like having money in my bank account and I hate having to take money out of savings. HATE it. In the entire time I have been unemployed (minus my jewelry business) I have not taken money out of my savings. I am really proud of myself for that.

I have to admit. Today was extremely difficult. I walked around the store trying really hard to talk myself out of buying this sweatshirt. I mean for one, it is a $95 sweatshirt! It is not made of gold or anything but in every other way it is perfect. But still, completely impractical for that price. At least for the moment anyway…

Another reason I had a difficult time saying no was because, as you know, my birthday was a week-ish ago and my grandma sent me a check for $100. Perfect, right!? Wrong. Instead of being able to buy myself something totally AWESOME, I got to buy a new car battery. yaay. Also, even if I didn’t need the battery, I wouldn’t have been able to spend this money on it. It wouldn’t have been a smart decision for me. I really don’t like to make bad decisions. It totally gives me anxiety.

I have never been in a situation like this before. This is the weirdest and probably one of the worst parts about not having a job. I have ALWAYS had a job. I have never had to REALLY tell myself no to something I want THIS BAD. I would like to point out that I am a terrible shopper to begin with. If I find something I really like in the store, I normally try it on and if I love it, I put it back and if I am still thinking about it in a day or 2 then I can go back and get it. It is even worse when I have a gift card or when I was younger and my dad would take me school shopping and gave me a budget. That gift card stays with me for MONTHS until I find something that I REALLY want or need. Something that makes me feel like I am getting my moneys worth. Ya know? And going shopping with my dad lasted months because I could never justify the money on things. He had to find ways to entertain himself because we would go shopping all the time and never buy anything. But that is a story for another day.

I guess this is just me and my firstworldproblems but it still affecting me. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am unable to take care of myself how I want to right now. In the way of being independent and all. Don’t get me wrong. For being jobless, I have it pretty good. I have a really great  AMAZING support system and I thankfully have Premier Designs because I don’t know where I would be without those 2 things. But really though. I am just not used to not being able to do the things that I want (within reason). I don’t really like it. BUT, this is where I am supposed to be right now. Things will work out eventually. And hopefully sooner, rather than later.

I hope you don’t take this as complaining. I’m not upset about the sweater (even though I totally want it), I am more upset with the situation. I am adjusting.  I also don’t want this to be taken as I have always gotten everything I have ever wanted. I am used to working and just really good at budgeting what I earn.

But back to the sweater, Cody and I decided that I could buy the sweater once I got a job or if I get a $2000 month with Premier Designs. I hope either one of those comes soon.

PS. sorry about the DUMB spacing in this. WordPress is being stupid.
(if it isn’t dumb, then cool. WordPress fixed itself)

My Monthly Gift.

I love my monthly subscriptions. But really though. It is like getting presents every month! So here are this months. Birchbox and Ipsy…AAANNNNNDDDDGO.

This was a pretty good box. Not gonna lie. It was only 2 days late again too! So, extra plus! webIMG_1292Juicy Couture: I love the Juicy’s Viva La Juicy perfume, like am totally in love with it. I really wish I owned it. But this scent really wasn’t my favorite. I will admit though, I don’t mind getting the perfume samples in my box. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I get EXTREMELY overwhelmed when trying to find perfume. I also get really bad headaches if I smell too many. So, in my book, I am ok with getting these in my box.

webIMG_1289Mox Botanicals-Pomegranate & Fig Lip Butter:  At first smell I totally loved it. It wasn’t too strong and had a pleasant smell. After using it a few times the smell has gotten really strong. BUT I am really sensitive to dry anything so I NEED to have lotion and chapstick on me at all times. This is great for the bottom of my purse (which is where it was before I could take a pic of it and almost lost it in that black hole). What I am not a fan of…putting my finger in it every time I want to use it.

webIMG_1294Number 4-Clarifying Shampoo: I haven’t used this yet. Every time I get in the shower, I remember it is in my room and say screw it, and use my usual shampoo again. I will let you know how it goes once I remember to put it in the shower.

theBalm Cosmetics-Hot Mama: I actually really like this stuff. I got an eyeshadow from them in my Ipsy bag last month. I have to admit though, I normally don’t venture outside my comfort zone when it comes to makeup. I like my makeup to take me no more than 5 minutes and so my routine is the same every time and so are my colors. When I got this, I figured it would be nice to try a different color every now and then and try new things. PLUS, it wasn’t going to put more time onto my routine. It is a nice shade. It is a little pink but shimmery. I am pretty sure I like it.

webIMG_1293Tweezerman-Filemate: Who doesn’t need another nail file. And this one is cute and it is a nice travel size to throw in my bag or to take on trips with me. I never have one when I need one.

webIMG_1295They also gave us this rent the runway gift card for $50 off. Basically, you rent a super expensive dress for a night or 2. Cool idea. I am still too cheap for this though. The bummer with this gift card is, you have to spend $125 or more to use it. If I am going to spend $75 on a dress, it better be in my closet for forever.

webIMG_1290This came with everything too. I am super into wrapping presents this year so I will definitely be using it. Also, you can share it on all your social media accounts with #bboxholiday

Pretty good box, right!? I am happy with it 🙂

webIMG_1275I have been loving Ipsy so far. They come ON TIME and they give really good products and I have only received 2 bags so far BUT (knock on wood) both of them have had multiple full sized products. Total win.

webIMG_1283Urban Decay – 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: Last month we got a brown pencil, at least this month it is black. I haven’t tried it yet though. Man, I really need to get out more….

webIMG_1284Mirabella Prime – For Face and Eyes: I have only used a primer once and that was when I was trying out makeup at benefit. I am not too big of a fan of primer mostly for the fact that I can feel it on my face and you can REALLY tell that I am wearing makeup. Also, like I said before, I don’t really want my makeup to take more than 5 minutes. I’m gonna try it out. See what it is like. Bonus: It is full size!

webIMG_1298NYX – Loose Pearl Shadow: I have yet to try this too. we will see what its like though. Apparently its got a crap ton of different uses. Also, I am pretty sure this is a full size product too!

webIMG_1282Mia Couture – Highlighter Paper: I am super excited to try this out. I have been really interested in highlighters but haven’t really wanted to shell out the money for them. I have the ELF highlighter and it has been fun to play with. So I am excited about these. Bonus: there is a bunch of sheets of these AND it comes with directions. Double bonus.

webIMG_1276be a Bombshell – Hot Mess Lip Gloss: I like this lip gloss. It doesn’t smell like anything which is good because I am not tempted to lick it off all day long and the color is really nice. I don’t really have any real red lip color either so I am excited to use it. I hope I can semi pull it off lol or else I am just gonna rock it till I make it! HA.
PS. This is a full size product too!

I am thrilled with both subscriptions this month. I really need to get out more/get a life so I can try all these out more!

Do you guys subscribe? What do you get each month? I am turning into a subscription junkie. (not to be confused with prescription junkie..) I really need a full time job lol.

PS. Last month in my ipsy bag, I got a nail polish. I finally used it. I LOVE it. OMG. So festive!
