That One Time I Had Dinner With My Mom And Dad.

I’m about to get a little more personal with you guys….well sort of…

My mom and dad were never married. I was a love child. At least that is what I like to call it. My parents were together for 14 years but they decided that being together when I was born was not going to be the best thing for anyone. Let me tell you how thankful I am for this decision. I have 2 (technically 3, but my step mom is not who we are talking about here) parents that love me unconditionally and they are still friends and they get along and I am so completely blessed to have been raised by them. If you had asked me when I was 8, 12, or 16, I probably wouldn’t have given you that same answer though.

Since then my dad married my step mom and they had my sister (who is 10.5 years younger than me). My dad met my step mom when I was 2 and they got married when I was 8. long story short.

We have all had dinner together like its NBD (no big deal) in the past. My step mom and mom get a long so its all good. The one thing I have never done, and I mean NEVER is, have dinner with my mom and dad. No step mom, no sister, just my mom and dad….Until last night. WEIRDEST.THING.EVER.  My step mom and sister are in Canada visiting friends and so my dad was all alone for Easter, and Cody, my mom, and I were having dinner at our house so we invited my dad too.

You see, Cody doesn’t really get it. I think you have to have parents that aren’t together anymore to think this is weird, because Cody doesn’t think this is a strange occurrence at all. Granted, his parents are still together.

No, but really though, this has NEVER happened in my entire life until now. Jesus rising really does cause miracles.

High 5 For Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! I feel like this week just flew by!

We were getting everything ready for the wedding and with our yard and a few interviews. Man! having things to do makes the week go by really fast!

So I will get started. This will be “my favorite things that happened in March” version since I am linking up with Ashley today too 🙂

PS. This time next week Ellie, Cody, and I will be on our way to Mendocino, CA to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. I am SUPER excited :)))))

IMAG08741. We have gotten to a point where we can let Ellie off leash at the park and have her run around and it makes her SO happy!

IMAG09392. Working on our house. Things I love/hate, but mostly love. Like planting in our garden, designing what we want our yard to look like and actually doing it. We have been doing lots this month with our house. I am excited to share our projects with you soon!

IMAG09453. Wedding stuff! The wedding is today! We have been crazy busy getting everything together for our friend’s wedding. Here is her cake, undecorated of course.

IMG_20130228_215639#14. We created a book club and had our first meeting! After this week we will finally have time to start our second book. And for those of you who said you wanted to do an online book club with me: I haven’t forgotten about you! I swear! Things got crazy with the wedding so we had to put things on hold for a little bit. I will get a hold of you next week with details, I promise! (and if you want to join, let me know!)

IMG_20130304_173621#15. Ellie had her 1st birthday this month. I adore my puppy child.

IMG_20130320_143415#26. Pink pants. How can you go wrong!

IMG_20130323_2247197. I found the band I want to play at my wedding and Cody totally approves. 80s nerd band. No, I am not getting married yet, I am not even engaged. Don’t judge. It will happen one day.

IMG_20130325_2019138. I have an amazing boyfriend. I say I want a piece of candy and he brings me home this. 🙂 He is a keeper.

IMG_20130328_2003569. This game. Its like Apples To Apples, but it is for really horrible people. Hilarious.

Those are my fav things for March. What are yours??

Colored Jeans.

Back in 2009, I worked at a sleep away summer camp in New York called Camp Kennybrook. MOST.AMAZING.EXPERIENCE.EVER. I moved across the country for the summer and had an unbelievable time. Camp could seriously be a series of posts in itself but that isn’t the point here. The point is about neon colored pants and how they came to be.

While colored jeans are very popular right now, they were not at the most popular thing back in the summer of 2009. At camp you only get 6 days off during the summer and on one of our days off, we went to one of the malls. Let me explain that camp was located in Monticello, NY. Monticello is NOT a fancy place. There is a Walmart, a Wendy’s, and a bar called Trotters. And also a bunch of hasidic jewish folks who took over the Walmart on Thursday nights. So basically there isn’t much to do there and when I say we went to a mall, it is a big deal!

At this mall we entered PacSun, which happened to have a crap ton of neon colored jeans on clearance. Of course we all bought them. How could we not! They were like 10 bucks! So that is the story of my pants. Just so you know.

IMG_2443Does this count as doing my hair? I am gonna go with yes.

Shirt: Target
Pants: PacSun
Shoes: Nordstrom Rack
Sweater: Victoria’s Secret
Jewelry: Premier Designs

Cody ordered a new flash for his fancy camera so he went flash crazy and was taking hundreds of photos for a few days to try and learn how to use his flash so a lot of our photos turned out like this…

IMG_2471So many photos….And yes, that is a thing of oreos sitting next to me on the couch. Total fat kid.

IMG_2397These are my favorite…

IMG_2465And then there is Ellie. You HAVE to love this one 🙂

Current Events.

In my family (on my mom’s side), there are 3 things we don’t talk about. Religion, Politics, and my dad. I come from a VERY catholic republican family. My mom is 1 of 8 and I love them all to death BUT, those 3 things are pretty taboo because well we just don’t agree. My democratic mom made me go to sunday school, monday school, church, pretty much the whole shebang growing up. I did every possible catholic thing there was to do. But as I got older we stopped going. My dad isn’t very religious, like at all, and my step mom is jewish. For my 16th birthday, we went to Temple and had potato latkes. I did end up going to church regularly without my mom up until my senior year of HS and then some lame stuff happened in my life and church never really felt the same so I haven’t attended regularly since. BUT that does NOT mean that I don’t love Jesus and blah blah blah.

Anyways, that is a little (emphasis on little) background on my religious life. Not that it matters.

SO! That being said. And this being you fabulous lovelies that come to my little blog, and not my mom’s awesomely large family, here are a few things that I think are appropriate. Especially right now.

This is my blog and these are my opinions. There won’t be any arguing about this. kthanks. 🙂

PS. Look at how short my hair was!

Happy Wednesday!

Sweet Teeth.

Oh Cadbury eggs. You are my favorite part about easter. I told Cody that I wanted a piece of candy so that amazing man went to the store and brought me this:

The other thing I love about Easter?? The end of lent. Except, I think my lent has actually helped me in the long run. I am hoping I can keep it up!

So, I am having a writer’s block kind of week. If you can even call it writer’s block since I don’t really consider myself a writer…like at all. haha. Thats Cody’s job.

But anyways, I think the writer’s block is because I am totally stressing out about waiting to hear back from job interviews and applying to new jobs and hoping to get an interview. I want to be hopeful and say I AM GETTING THIS JOB but then I feel that if I think that, I am jinxing it completely. But I also feel that if I don’t think that, then I am still jinxing it.

UGH. Its a Catch 22. Stupid anxiety.

Anyways, I am hoping planning for a better tomorrow and doing everything I can to make today good.

Weekend Recap.

I have nothing very interesting to say today. So here is a short recap of my weekend.

BFFs birthday weekend.

We went to San Francisco to see a hockey game. There were no fights though, so that was really lame.

Saw the most amazing band play at a local bar. 80s nerd band. Seriously. Best.Thing.Ever.

Worked on the deck.

Finally decided to tackle the multiple loads of laundry that has been staring me in the face for weeks…

All in all. It was a REALLY GOOD weekend.

How was your weekend??

High 5 For Friday!

I am gonna keep this short and sweet because it is 12:30am and I just got home so I am TIRED.

Here are my 5 awesome things for this week!

IMAG08791. We went to Pasta Nello night and I ate delicious all you can eat pasta and picked up my wine from my wine club. This is how they drove home with me. They weren’t open, so its totally fine, right???
PS. After dinner I went back to my BFFs house and we watched the last Twilight and it was fabulous. (Neither of us had seen it yet, which is impressive since I saw the first one in theaters 9, yes 9, times.) AMAZING evening.

IMG_20130320_1654302. The flowers from the trees are falling and my street looks like it is covered in snow from a distance. (A girl can dream, can’t she?)

IMG_20130320_143415#13. I definitely busted out my neon pink pants for the first time since 2009. There is a story behind these. You will have to wait till Thursday to hear about it though.

4. Can you have a love affair with Boudin? Because I think I have one. I wish it wasn’t so far away!

IMG_20130319_0006045. I was super productive this week. This was only one day AND I did way more stuff than what was on the list. Definitely satisfying.

IMG_20130318_185807Bonus: I love these shoes. And the fact that I can sit in the grass on an empty soccer field while Ellie is literally leaping with joy that we trust her to be at the park off leash. Happiest dog ever.

How was your week?!?

life rearranged

So I was thinking about yesterday’s post and figuring out what to put on an application when they ask for a salary requirements. What if I put that I want to be a millionaire one day so thats what I want to get paid. $1,000,000 per year. Do you think they would laugh and I would be memorable or would they just straight up get rid of me?

Moving on to my favorite top. When I was nannying full time, there was a day we all went to the mall. We went into Nordstroms and I saw TWO girls wearing this shirt 2 different ways and I absolutely fell in love with it. Well both girls worked at Nordstroms and thats where they said they got it.

I looked for that shirt like my life was depending on it. I looked in the store and online and even on the brand’s website. It was no where. I was totally bummed.

Well, one day I was browsing the racks at Nordstrom Rack and there it is. Its my shirt. HOW.EXCITED.WAS.I!!! Holy crap. I snatched that baby up so fast, I didn’t even look at the price.

So here it is. My lucky shirt.
(not that it brings me luck, just that I was super lucky to find it, and not even at full price!)

Shirt: Nordstrom Rack
Pants: American Eagle
Shoes: Target (Same shoe, different color)

STYLELIXIR Style Sessions

I have my bachelors in speech pathology and have been employed as a SLPA multiple times so I pretty much know what my time and education is worth. But, I have been filling out more random applications these days because there are very few SLPA jobs available here in lovely California… And as these applications become less and less like my degree, it is hard to know what to put when they ask for your salary requirements.

What is a lot of money and what is too little? How do I figure out the right amount to not get thrown out for asking too much or get taken advantage of by asking for too little?

Lets be real, you already know what you are going to pay me if I get the job. At least a salary range. There is no real reason for you to try and trick me…it’s just rude. Its like when a teacher gives you a test to see how much you can remember versus how much you actually learned. RUDE.

Anyways, thats my rant/confusion. Haha.

You know what else I find rude? When you make me give you a resume AND then also make me fill out an application with all of my work history on it (that is already on my resume).

Ok end of rant. Thanks for listening. 🙂

Here is a cute puppy photo to try and make up for this.

PS. Hopefully there was some humor in this.

Not Just Any Sandwich.

Lets have a serious talk about sandwiches. But really though. They are delicious. I do want to share one of the most delicious sandwiches that I know how to make. They will make EVERYONE happy. SO GOOD.

Open Faced Sandwiches:

French Bread
Turkey (tofurkey, if you have a veggie in your fam like I do)
Provolone Cheese
Basil Leaves
Minced Garlic
Olive Oil

IMAG0861Mix a spoonful of garlic (this can vary, depending on how much you like garlic or not) and some olive oil. (Enough olive oil to make it spreadable on your bread. )

IMAG0863Broil it in the oven for a few minutes.

IMAG0864Add your turkey.

IMAG0865Then the basil leaves.

IMAG0866Then the tomatoes.

IMAG0867Then the provolone cheese.

After everything is on, Broil it some more until the cheese melts/it is warm.

IMAG0868Enjoy the best sandwich ever.

We ate these for lunch and dinner yesterday. Don’t judge. They were delicious.
